Yogi’s Karate Dojo Shines at Vancouver Island Karate Championship in Nanaimo

Abbotsford’s Yogi’s Karate Dojo had an excellent showing at the recent Vancouver Island Karate Championship, which occurred in Nanaimo on Feb. 5.

Eight students attended the event and took home 11 medals.

The following athletes earned hardware: Ranon Sharma (two gold), Rayan Sharma (two silver), Divyaroop Singh (two silver), Nirver Singh Maan (one silver and one bronze), Divyaroop Singh (two silver), Krishang Chauhan (one bronze) and Yashu Chauhan (one bronze).

The next big event on the calendar for the YKD is the Karate BC Provincial Championships on April 29 and 30 in Richmond.

Local athletes earn four gold, two silver and five bronze at event in Richmond on Dec. 2 and 3.

Athletes from Abbotsford’s Yogi Karate Dojo had a great showing at the recent Canada Open Karate Championships, with locals taking home 11 medals.

The Canada Open Karate Championships, considered Canada’s largest karate tournament and one of the biggest on the continent, saw more than 1,200 participants from all over take to the mat in Richmond on Dec. 2 and 3.

YKD competitors scored four gold, two silver and five bronze at the event.

Those collecting medals included: Flynn Relly (gold), Arman Dhaliwal (gold and bronze), Homan Sharma (gold), Ranon Sharma (gold and bronze), Devyaan Sharma (silver), Rayaan Sharma (silver), Mannat Dhaliwal (bronze), Tashi Sharma (bronze) and Krishang Chauhan (bronze).

“Our dojo has always been focused on engaging kids in the community through the discipline and art of Karate,” stated Sensei Yogender Chauhan, the chief instructor at YKD. “These victories at the Canada Open are a testament to our students hard work and the supportive environment we foster here.”

Athletes from Abbotsford’s Yogi’s Karate Dojo take home medals at karate provincials

Abbotsford athletes from Yogi’s Karate Dojo took home a number of medals at the 2024 Karate BC Provincial Championships, which ran on April 6 and 7 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Led by sensei Yogender Chauhan and coach Yashu Chauhan, the team collected three gold, five silver and nine bronze medals.

The top performers included Nirvair S. Maan (one gold and one bronze) and Ryan Sharma (one silver and one one bronze).

Gold medals were also won by Homan Sharma and Reyansh Guglani. Silvers were earned by Devyan Sharma, Sukhdeep Singh, Tashi Sharma and Manat Dhaliwal.

Those taking home bronze consisted of: Angad Bhati, Damian Lamarsh, Ranon Sharma, Flynn Reilly, Ekamjot Deol, Krishang Chauhan and Sartaj S. Bhatti.

“This success highlights the dojo’s commitment to excellence in karate classes in Abbotsford,” stated Yogender in a press release. “Congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding achievements.”

Yogi’s Karate Dogo athletes excel at Burnaby-based competition

Yogi’s Karate Dojo in Abbotsford put together a glorious day at the 23rd annual Sato Cup event in Burnaby on Nov. 9, with 11 local athletes taking home medals.

The event saw martial artists of all ages compete in kata, kumite and weapons events as both individuals and in a team.

Abbotsford athletes earning medals included:

  • Nirvair S. Maan: gold and bronze
  • Reyansh Guglani: silver and bronze
