Abbotsford’s Yogi’s Karate Dojo earns 13 medals at Canada Open Karate Championships
Richmond-based event earlier this month sees a number of locals take home medals
Abbotsford martial artists excelled at the 2022 Canada Open Karate Championships in Richmond earlier this month.
The fifth edition of the event occurred at the Olympic Oval and is one of the largest karate tournaments in North America. There are divisions for all levels and ages using World Karate Federation rules.
More than 600 athletes competed at the event, which took place on Dec. 3 and 4.
Athletes from the Abbotsford-based Yogi’s Karate Dojo who earned a total of 13 medals included:
- Sartaj Bhatti: gold in individual kumite and bronze in kata
- Armaan Dhaliwal: silver in individual kata and bronze in team kata
- Krishang Chauhan: bronze in individual kata and bronze in team kata
- Yashu Chauhan: bronze in individual kumite
- Ahaan Dani: bronze in individual kumite
- Mannat Dhaliwal: bronze in individual kata
- Ranon Sharma: bronze medal individual kumite
- Gulmehakk Kaur: bronze in individual kumite
- Divyaroop Singh: bronze in team kata
- Rayan Sharma: bronze in individual kumite
